Eyes of the Day (EOTD)

Today’s eye make-up look is featuring Annabelle Cosmetics Quad Eyeshadow in “Chai Chai Chai”.

Annabelle Cosmetics Quad Eyeshadow

  • Very pigmented: Extremely impressed with the pigmentation and color pay-off of this product. With just a light touch, you get a lot of product on your brush.
  • Silky touch: Very soft and silky and when you apply it on your lids there is little to no “fall-off”.

Check out Annabelle’s Quad Eyeshadow on www.annabelle.ca to see other shades they offer.
Currently on special for $8.95 (reg. $10.95).

I paired up Annabelle Quad Eyeshadow with Marcelle Xtension Plus Mascara.

I highly recommend this palette. This eye shadow quad has been my go-to, everyday palette to achieve a natural smokey-eye look for months now. It can be taken from day to night by adding more smokiness with the darkest brown colour giving a sexy, sultry look. This product exceeds my expectations for a drugstore palette and is excellent quality for the price you pay. Thumbs up all the way!

{Beauty Panel} How Would You Wear a Statement Lip?

Bold statement lips are huge this season, but a unique way to sport this spring/summer trend is to wear an ombré lip. We have ombré hair and ombré nails, who said ombré lips can’t join the party?

The lip look I’m wearing today is a wearable ombré lip: a dark pink colour on the outer edge of my lips gradually fade to a lighter pink towards the center. Not only is this lip cool-looking, it also gives an effect of fuller lips. (Ssshh! A best kept secret!)

One of my tips for making this look long-lasting is to use lip liners or matte lipsticks. An alternative is to dab a tiny bit of powder over your lips to increase the staying power.

{Beauty Panel} Who is your Celebrity Hair + Make-up Inspiration?

A celebrity I always look to for hair and make-up inspiration is Eva Longoria. Whenever I want a fresh ‘do, I tend to Google her name, save the photo on my phone and then show the hair dresser.

One of my favourite hairstyles of hers is when she wears her hair down and curled:

My hair is thick and layered and with the right tools and technique I’ve been able to recreate her look many times over. When I’m in a rush, I use both a hot roller set and a curling iron. A hot roller set is so quick and easy to use and the curling iron gives me more curl control.

    Here’s how I do it:

    1. Side part your hair and separate the front section of your hair on both your left and right side. (We will be curling this section with a curling iron later on.)
    2. Take a hot roller set and apply the rollers in different directions (some outwards away from the face and others downwards). Ensure that what you do on one side, you do on the other in order to keep the curls symmetrical.
    3. For this look, I prefer loose curls so the jumbo and super jumbo sized rollers do the trick! Because my hair is medium in length, I tend to just use the jumbo rollers. The super jumbo rollers do not give me as much of a curl for this look.
    4. Once the rollers have cooled off, take them out.
    5. Take your curling iron (1” – 1.5”) and curl the two front sections you kept aside. Curl your hair away from your face as it opens up your face and neck giving it a more flattering look.
    6. Once this is all done, get your favourite hairspray and spray away!
    7. To loosen up the curls, gently and lightly pull some of the curls straight. I don’t run my fingers through my hair because I don’t want to create more volume — my hair is already pretty thick! And there you have it, Eva Longoria-inspired curls!

Not only does Eva’s hair styles inspire me, but her bronzed, natural makeup is also a look I like to emulate. Here’s a few quick makeup tips:

    • Some people have told me that they are afraid their eyes would look tired with this look because of the brown tones. To brighten up, use an off-white pencil (more natural than white) and rim the inner lower lash line. Also, a few coats of mascara will really help open up the eyes.
    •  To deepen up a bronzy, natural eye look, take a black eye shadow and apply a bit of it on the outer corner of the eyes and gently blend up.
    • If you are limited on products, take your matte bronzer and apply it to the hallows of your cheeks and then sweep it onto the crease of your eyes. This will help warm up those beautiful eyes.

      {Beauty Panel} 90s Beauty Make-up is Back! What 90s make-up trend would you try?

When I think of 1990s makeup, I think of Brenda Walsh from the original 90210, Kelly Kapowski from Saved by the Bell, and Daisy (Neve Campbell) from Catwalk— all beautiful women! (Did I just reveal my age?) This week’s inspiration is a bit of Brenda and Daisy mixed together: sexy and sultry with a blend of grunge.

What makes this look? Soft smoky brown eyes and deep red wine lips.

Part of the 1990s beauty trend this season is a focus on the lower lash line. So grab your favourite neutral eye shadow palette—one of my favourites is the Wet ‘n Wild Comfort Zone palette. It’s very pigmented and super affordable!

After you apply eye shadow on your lids:

      1. Take a dark brown eye shadow with an eye liner brush and apply it to your lower lash line. Concentrate the colour closest to your lash line and then blend down diffusing the colour.

      2. Take a lighter brown eye shadow and apply it slightly under your lower lash line. This will help achieve the gradient smoky affect, going from dark to light.

      3. To keep this ’90s look modern, add a lighter colour on the inner corner of your eye to brighten up the look.

      4. Apply your favourite mascara to the top and bottom lashes.

If you want to go a step further with the 1990s beauty trend, add a wine-coloured lipstick. This was definitely a staple in Brenda Walsh’s purse!

      Long-lasting? Annabelle Smoothie Eyeshadow Pencil

One of my favourite black pencils, Annabelle Smoothie Eyeshadow Pencil, is on my eyes today.

This pencil is not just a pencil, but it is a creamy eye shadow in a pencil form — a jumbo pencil form to be exact!
My all-time favourite colour of them all is Licoriche. It’s not just black, but it’s super black! Very pigmented, opaque and it glides on like buttah (butter)!
It’s easy to blend to create a gorgeous evening smokey-eye or a subtle daytime smokey-eye (like the one I’m wearing today) and it stays put ALL day. It can even act as the perfect eye shadow base all over your lids and can be applied to your waterline!
These pencils come in a range of different colours (click here) so you can definitely have lots of fun playing with your eye make-up!
Pick up your Annabelle Smoothie Eyeshadow Pencil at your local drugstore ($8.95) and give it a try!

What is your everyday make-up look?

Who Said Girls Can’t Have a ‘Stache too?

Movember is that time of month when guys grow (or attempt to grow :P) their moustaches to raise money for prostate cancer and other male cancers. But what about the ladies? How can we support our dudes?

Annabelle Cosmetics is looking out for us ‘Mo Sistas and will be donating to the Movember Foundation with our contribution.

Who said ladies can’t have a ‘stache too?

How to contribute to the Annabelle Movember Donation Project

      1. Using your favourite Annabelle lipliner, lipstick, lipgloss or even eye pencil, draw a moustache above your upper lip and snap a picture.
      2. Upload the picture on your own Pinterest board. For your participation to translate into a donation, you must use the hashtag #AnnabelleMovember in the Pin description and tell us which Annabelle product was used to draw your moustache. Annabelle will repin your picture onto her own Annabelle Pinterest “#AnnabelleMovember Mo Sistas2012” board and donate one dollar ($1) for every valid picture.

To sum it all up: They commit the cash, you supply the moustache.

Here is my contribution on Pinterest:

Ladies, you have to admit … you can’t wait ’til your dude shaves off his ‘stache, huh!

      Vicious Vamp

*Just worked on top of her existing make-up
      Products used:
Eyes – MAC Blactrack, Urban Decay 24/7 eye pencil in Yeyo (white), false lashes (from IMATS)
Brows – Urban Decay 24/7 eye pencil in Zero (black)
Lips – Annabelle lip liner in Medoc, Annabelle lipstick in Vino (discontinued), Urban Decay 24/7 eye pencil in Zero (black), Urban Decay 24/7 eye pencil in Yeyo (white)
Contour – Lise Watier Portfolio Palettes in light & dark
Blush – Annabelle lipstick in Vino
As you may have noticed in the product list above, I used some products for multiple things.
      For example:
Urban Decay 24/7 eye pencil in Zero (black) – I used this to define/contour the outer edges of the lips. I also used this lightly on the brows. My sister’s brows are naturally very dark and coarse, but for this look,  I wanted to make it slightly more defined.
Urban Decay 24/7 eye pencil in Yeyo (white) – I used it on the lower lash line. I also applied a tiny bit in the centre of the lips to highlight and make the lips more full and defined.
Annabelle lipstick in Vino – Not only did I use this on the lips, but I used it as blush for the cheeks.
Don’t be afraid to play around with your make-up and make the products multi-purpose!
(The only thing you should be careful with is putting products in your eyes that you aren’t supposed to. :P)

      Happy playing!

      Close-up taken on my iPhone:

      LOTD – VINO {ANNABELLE Cosmetics}

Lately, I’ve been wearing bold lip colours.
On a daily basis, my make-up tends to be very neutral. But on weekends I love to spice it up with a bit of colour on the lips. I used to be very afraid to wear bold lip colours, but lately I’ve been stepping out of my comfort zone to give my look a bit more … oomph.

So I think I’ll start posting photos of my “LIPSTICK OF THE DAY”. I don’t wear lipstick everyday, but when I do, I’ll post a photo for you to see. Who knows, it might introduce a new colour to you or help you determine whether or not you like a colour you were contemplating on getting.

Here is what I wore today:

      Lipstick: VINO {ANNABELLE Cosmetics}
      Lipliner: Cherry {ANNABELLE Cosmetics}

      * don’t mind the lipstick shape. lol I melted all my lipsticks for my make-up kit and left a bit on the tube for me to use.
The inspiration of today’s lip colour was my turquoise necklace
I wanted to wear something deep, but not too dark.

Marcelle & Annabelle’s Beauty Premier Event

Last week I attended a Spring 2012 launch event hosted by the well-known Canadian cosmetic brands — Marcelle and Annabelle Cosmetics.

This trendy cocktail party was held at the Rooftop Lounge of the Thompson Hotel to show us a sneak peek of their new products launching next Spring 2012. We also had the opportunity to mix and mingle with the people working behind the Marcelle and Annabelle products! 🙂

What a gorgeous view of the city on the rooftop

The dress code was “urban chic” which caused an exciting stir amongst some of us Toronto Beauty Bloggers on Twitter!

“Omg, what am I going to wear?”
“Got my outfit for the #BeautyPremier!”
“What are you going to wear!?”

It was the most anticipated launch party I have attended thus far and I must say it definitely exceeded my expectations!

Not only did they serve hor d’oeuvres on a platter, but they served make-up too! I was very impressed … and excited! I mean, who else does that? 😛

Another thing that impressed me was their lipgloss lab! We got to create our own lipglosses which was a such a fun experience!

      How did it work?

There was a gloss colour wheel on display and each colour had a letter. We were to choose 4-6 colours and hand the colour combo to the ‘lipgloss chemists’ and wish for the best!  (You don’t understand how nervous I was for the outcome! I was afraid my colour choices would look like mud. lol)

The three glosses on the bottom right (photo above) are my creation! lol

The gloss on the far left is actually created by spelling out my name: T E S S
(Thanks to Jill (http://jillojello.com) for that idea!

Are you curious to see what Annabelle and Marcelle have in store for us for Spring 2012?

      Here’s a sneak peek:

Marcelle – Xtension Plus Mascara (lengthening)
Marcelle – BB Cream (the craze right now!)
Marcelle Gene Youth Skincare  – Eye cream, Day cream and Night cream

Marcelle – Waterproof Eye Make-up Remover
Annabelle – The Big Show Lipglosses (12 shades)
      Already in stores:
Annabelle Smudge Paints (beauty lover favourite)

Annabelle – Glitterama Eyeliner (8 colours)
      [Sorry, I don’t have a photo :S]

There were so many beauty bloggers and make-up artists at this event. It was great to see a lot of familiar faces!

(I also did Isabel’s hair and make-up for her sister-in-law’s wedding when she was in Toronto. Check it out here!)
      Well … don’t mind if I do!
One last take before heading off for the night! lol
On our way out we got a swag bag! 🙂
Unfortunately, the bag I received didn’t have all the new products launching. 🙁
But at least I get to try their new lipgloss and mascara and the other products in the bag! 😀
Thanks Isabel, Marcelle and Annabelle for hosting this wonderful event!
You probably noticed from our tweets that night, that all the Toronto Beauty Bloggers had an amazing time!
