Jenna Comeau (Miss Teen Canada – New Brunswick)

Jessica Mazar (Miss Teen Canada – Southern British Columbia)

Katelyn Kelly (Miss Petite – Northern Nova Scotia)

{Ghierhol + Andrew} Wedding

I met Ghierhol when we were in our late teens through a good friend of ours.
She is such a beautiful person inside and out and not to mention talented … I remember she is such a great dancer!

When I found out she was engaged, I was ecstatic for her! She deserves nothing but the best and I’m happy she found & married the love of her life…

Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to work with the talented photographer, Patrick Lacsina {gawwwsh, I love working with him!}.

Native/Savage Shoot

A couple of months a go, I was approached by a good friend of mine, Juanito Aguil, to be a make-up artist for a project he and a few other photographers were working on. The goal was to achieve a native/savage look, which I think we captured successfully! πŸ™‚ What do you think?

Website Launched!

I am very happy to say that my portfolio website is ready for viewing! πŸ™‚
My website was created a few months ago but it was never complete until today!
The bio was one section I just kept putting on hold because I hate writing or talking about myself!
But with the help of my fiance, I was able to finally get that part of my website done! He wrote up a few questions for me to answer and put it together in a document and VOILA! My bio was created!

side note: if you ever need your bio written ask my fiance! lol

I added some new photos to my porftolio too! I’ve done a few photoshoots since the new year and worked with wonderful and talented people! One of my goals this year was to do more photoshoots and so far, I think I’ve been doing pretty good!

My portfolio is still growing so keep checking back for new work.

Feel free to browse, read, view, and click away! Any feedback, comments, and constructive criticism are welcome!

Thank you everyone for your support and inspiration along this journey!

{BlushPretty Photoshoot} Low-end or High-end?

When it comes to anything in general, people tend to get caught up in name brand items.
But what most of us sometimes disregard is, with name brand items, comes extra cost. Whether it’s a vehicle, purse, shoes, groceries, or make-up does expensive necessarily mean better?

In my opinion, when it comes to make-up, high-end (departmental) make-up doesn’t necessarily mean it trumps low-end, affordable, drug store brands. With low-end brands, the quality of the actual make-up could be just as good or even better. The only difference might be when we buy high-end make-up we are paying for better packaging, the ability to try before we buy,  and of course, the “name”.

Some of the BlushPretty (www.blushpretty.com)  make-up artists were put to the challenge of creating a high/low look. We had a theme (mine was Bronzy Beach Babe) and had to do one look with high-end products and one with low-end products.

High-end look: I used products such as MAC, NARS, Shiseido, Urban Decay, etc.
Low-end look: Elaine (www.fromelainenextdoor.com), sales rep for Avon/mark, provided us with affordable products that anyone can use! !

Here are the two beautiful models. Have a look and let me know which one you think is the high-end look and which is the low-end look. Feel free to comment below or tweet it (@makeupbytess) . . .

Can you tell the difference?

THEIT Bag – The “IT” Bag

Are you a photo lover like me? Do you like to capture life’s moments β€” your vacation, your baby’s first steps or even the simple things in life such as the delicious meal you are about to eat? Are you a beauty or fashion blogger who loves to take photos of products you’ve purchased, events you’ve attended or your make-up/outfit of the day?

If you said yes, to any of these questions, then girl, will you enjoy what I have in store for you!

Keep reading! πŸ™‚

I have both a DSLR and a point & shoot camera.
You probably agree that a DSLR camera has better photo quality hands down! But there are days where I just don’t want to lug around that big, heavy thing with me!  So I just resort to my point & shoot camera or most often than not, my iPhone camera and just sacrifice the quality.

Sometimes being lazy and opting for a lightweight, small camera size vs. photo quality isn’t such a great idea. Especially if you are travelling on vacation.  After many weeks of contemplating whether I should bring my DSLR on my trip to Europe, I reluctantly decided to leave it at home.

Why, you ask? Although my Lowepro Slingshot camera bag is very comfortable and practical, I must admit, it doesn’t look fashionable! It just wouldn’t have looked good with my trendy outfits walking down the streets of Paris, Venice, Barcelona, etc. Also, I felt like this bag just screams, “Tourist!” and I didn’t want to be called out like that.

Back in October I was contacted by Nicole, Founder & Creative Director of THEIT bags. She is being featured in a media book called, CRAVE Toronto The Urban Gal’s Manifesto for its second edition β€” a book which features successful and inspiring female entrepreneurs in Toronto. She said what drew me to her was not only my talent, but my passion to follow my dreams and my eagerness to inspire others. (I liked her already! :P)

She contacted me to inquire on my make-up rates for her photo appearing in the CRAVE Toronto media book as well as my rates for her THEIT bag’s upcoming lookbook. I happily gave her my rates and couldn’t wait to work with her.

I actually heard about her THEIT bag from a mutual friend of ours last year when the THEIT bags were launched. As being an aspiring photographer, I thought her bags were the greatest idea ever … a fashionable & trendy camera bag β€” the “IT” bag!

Pronounced as one word – “THEIT” bag – is a modern, chic camera bag used to capture life’s moments in style. Why didn’t I think about this bag before I went on my trip? It would’ve been the perfect thing to carry my DSLR in without being afraid that it clashes with my outfits as well as ensuring it’s protected!

This high quality, water-resistant bag has a detachable chained strap to wear as a cross-over or on your shoulder. With adjustable and removable compartments to insert and organize your camera body, flash, lens, batteries, etc., this purse is padded to protect the gear inside.  There is even a compartment for your Ipad or tablet. On days where you don’t want to bring your camera, you can remove the inserts (if you’d like) and just use this bag as a regular purse! How awesome is that?!

So last week, I finally had the opportunity to meet and work with the beautiful and intelligent face behind this THEIT brand. Nicole, a previous flight attendant who had the same dilemma as moi β€” wanted to capture life’s moments and travel with style while having peace of mind that your camera is safe. This is what inspired her to create the THEIT bag.

Below is her before and after photo for the CRAVE Toronto photo shoot.

I hope this bag sparked your interest and won your heart the way it did with me! πŸ˜›
I highly recommend this bag to all aspiring photographers, beauty & fashion bloggers, and simply, just the every day woman.
This would be a great item to add to your Christmas wish list!
Tell your boyfriend, husband, mom, dad, etc! πŸ˜›
