Say HELLO To Moisturized Lips!

Not sure where you are in this world, but where I am, it is currently -15 deg/Celsius! It is ffffffreezing!
With cold weather comes dry, chapped lips and you all know how much we love DRY, CHAPPED LIPS!! :S

Even if you aren’t dealing with cold, winter weather right now, I’m sure you’ll still love this product …

EOS lip balm

EOS lip balm stands for Evolution Of Smooth. This product, made in the United States, is paraben and petrolatum free. EOS is 100% natural and 95% organic. It contains shea butter, vitamin E, and jojoba oil to make your lips smooth, supple and most importantly moisturized for a long period of time.

When I first heard about EOS, I thought it was oddly shaped β€” a ball/sphere? I initially thought it was too big, would take up more room in my purse, etc. But since I’ve purchased it, I have found no problems with its size and shape. Plus, it’s easier for me to spot in my disorganized purse than a typical lip balm that is a stick/tube. The actual quality of the product stumps its shape for me.

I love how once applied, your lips don’t feel like they have a thick film over them (like some other lip balms do). Your lips still feel like YOUR LIPS. It gives a matte look which makes it look like there isn’t any product on your lips and keeps it looking soft and moisturized.

EOS comes in different flavours. I purchased Summer Fruit and Sweet Mint β€” these were the only ones available at the Wal-mart I went to. Not a huge fan of the Summer Fruit but the Sweet Mint is (sniiiffff, sigh) aaaamazing! Keep in mind, only one of their flavours contain SPF which is Lemon Drop. Currently EOS comes in the following flavours:

This .25 oz (7 grams) of moisturizing goodness retails for $3.98 each (CAD) at Wal-mart.
L to R: Sweet Mint and Summer Fruit
The sphere has a little indentation to comfortably rest your thumb on as you open and apply the lip balm.
This is not your typical tube-shaped lip balm, but it works.

I usually have three lip balms readily available for me β€” one by my bed to apply in the morning and before I go to bed, one in my purse, and one at my office desk.  So I need one more EOS flavour to add to my collection. Any suggestions??

For the love of NAILS

When I was in 6th grade, I had a floral Kaboodle FULL of nail polishes (Revlon and Wet ‘n Wild). I remember taking it with me to my long drive to Delaware to visit family one long weekend and my parents asked me why I needed to bring that entire thing around. I just couldn’t part with it. I thought, “What if I get bored and want to do my nails?”. Yup, I was only 11 years old.

From stripes to polka dots, I was pretty creative with my nails. I was obsessed with Disney characters at the time and some days would even paint Mickey and Minnie Mouse on my nails.

Seventeen years later, I’m still obsessed with nail polish, but a few things have changed:

  • I have branched out to different brands (China Glaze, OPI, American Apparel, NYX, Sally Hansen, Joe Fresh, etc.);
  • I no longer have a kaboodle-full of polishes, but a big container from the dollar store; and
Part of my nail polish collection

  • Throughout the years, I have become a bit more reserved with my nails, but am now slowly branching out into being creative again.

Me doing my sister’s nails

The other day, my little cousin. Danielle, tweeted a photo of nail art her and her friends did during their holiday party. I was beyond impressed. I knew my cousin was very artistic and creative, but seeing these nails just made me so amazed and to be quite honest, inspired again! So I had to share!

Here is their wonderful nail art creation:

Middle Row (left to right): Danielle (hi, cousin! :D) -left hand, right hand/hello kitty inspired~cutesy
Great job, ladies!
Thanks Danielle for sharing the photo!

    It’s Make-over Time!

So after a couple of years of having the same look, I thought I would give my blog a mini make-over.
My blog was beginning to look a bit old school (through my eyes, anyway) and I thought I would change its style and make it a bit more modern. I noticed what is in style today in the blogging world is a clean and simple look.

    Old look:

I have added a few new features:

    • Reviews page – Still under construction
    • Testimonials – Clients share their experience with me
    • Websites – I have shared a link to my other blogs: StyleCentsByTess and CapturedIn365
    • Youtube – Yikes! I know I haven’t made a video in a really long time. But since I’ve added the YouTube link to the menu header, hopefully this will motivate me into filming more!
    • Facebook Fan Page – Many of you have been asking me if I have a Facebook page for MakeupByTess. After years of resisting, I have decided to create one. Please feel free to check it out and ‘Like’ the page! πŸ™‚

I’m really happy with the result and hopefully my readers are too!
This make-over wasn’t as difficult as I thought it would be. PHEW! Thank goodness!
I will still be experimenting and adding new things as we go along.
But feel free to visit as often as you like and PLEASE subscribe to my blog by e-mail or friend connect! (ahem … on the right lol)

If you have any suggestions or like the new look, feel free to comment below.

    Thanks & Enjoy!

If you follow me on Twitter, you may know that I put myself up to a 40 day challenge for Lent. I call it my . . .

To binge is to have “excessive indulgence in something” (
My ’40 Day Beauty Binge’ challenge is to write a blog entry every day for forty days of anything I find beautiful. To me blogging daily is considered excessive for me (binging) because I don’t blog as often as I should. Also, prior to this challenge, I felt as though I was losing inspiration and motivation in life. I thought the best way to get inspired again was to create this challenge for myself and give myself the opportunity to open my eyes a little more to see & appreciate what kind of beauty surrounds me.
Let me tell you that it’s been 32 days (it’s really 33 days into Lent but I started late) and I feel like this challenge is really working for me! I created a blog on Tumblr called, “40DayBeautyBinge“.
Check it out to see what I find beautiful, motivating, and inspiring in my life!
P.S. To those who have already commented on this challenge, thanks for all your kind and inspiring words! I’m glad that this challenge has also inspired you! πŸ˜€

8 more days of my challenge!

Living One of Your Dreams . . .

I know this post has nothing to do with make-up, but I thought I would share this with you because it’s about another LOVE of mine (and probably yours too πŸ˜› )…..SHOES!! πŸ™‚ For all of you shoe-a-holics out there, I’m sure you have dreamt of becoming a shoe designer, right?! Well, your dream has now come true!

Shoes of Prey ( gives you the opportunity to design your own shoes starting from the style (ballet flats, ankle boots, platforms, etc.) to the material (soft leather, fish skin, snake skin, etc.) to the colour, to the size of the heel, up to the embellishments and decorations!

    How awesome is that?!

But to design your own shoes, comes with a price! It’s crazzzzzy expensive for my liking, but I thought this was such an awesome idea, nonetheless!

Play around on their website and give it a try:
Also, check out Michelle Phan’s YouTube video of how you can design your own shoes:

    Make-up As A Placebo?

I believe make-up acts as a placebo to being confident and feeling beautiful about yourself. Even if it’s the slightest application of a lipgloss or maybe just a hint of blush, make-up helps make a woman feel beautiful.

I’ve given make-overs to many women of different ages and ethnicities. Some of these women may have been having a horrible day, may have been sick with cancer, may have had low self-esteem, etc. but once the make-up application was complete and they looked at themselves in the mirror with just a slight enhanced version of themselves staring back at them, I could see the confidence boost in their eyes. Their face just lights up with happiness! Even though it’s a temporary “fix”, at least you spent that 1 day, couple of hours, or even a few seconds of your day feeling good about yourself.

Wearing make-up doesn’t consist of piling it on to make you look like a completely different person. It can just be a light, simple, natural make-up application to enhance your features to let your inner beauty shine! πŸ˜‰

    Check out this video:

Do you feel a little more confident when wearing a little make-up??

    CHEERS…to a new decade!

2009 has come & gone in a blink of an eye. Can you believe it is already 2010? In the ’90s when I thought of 2010, I imagined flying cars and everyone wearing silver and very BRIGHT colours! LOL

One word to sum up 2009 is…”INTERESTING”. It has surely been an “interesting” year. This year was full of some unexpected surprises but I think if you look back at the experiences and take what you’ve learned from it, it’s made you into a better person. So that’s what I’ll be doing…taking what I’ve learned from 2009 and cherishing the wonderful memories while leaving the rest behind! It’s been an awesome year from having the opportunity to travel with the ones you love, facing fears you never imagined you could overcome, having the honour to be the make-up artist for many couples’ special day, improving my skills, being able to balance family and work….and so much more!

However, one thing I neglected to work on is keeping my body healthy. I was very good at the beginning of 2009 (January to April), then it went downhill from there. I’m hoping this NEW year, I will have more will power and stick to working out consistently and eating more healthy.
(We’ll see how long this will last! πŸ˜› j/k)

I remember saying my new year’s resolution will be to make YouTube videos. But last month I thought, if I don’t start doing it now, I’ll never do it! So I started my new year’s resolution a few weeks early. To be honest, I’m shocked that people actually watch my videos! I thought I would get only 30 views per video. I know I don’t get CRAZY views like other make-up gurus out there! LOL But as long as I can get my message across to some people, that’s all that matters! (Although, it would be amazing to have hundreds of thousands of views! LOL). Also, ever since I posted YouTube videos the number of views on this blog has gone up! That’s amazing! I should post more interesting things up on here now that I have more readers! πŸ˜›

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for watching my videos and reading my blog! πŸ™‚ I have some video and blog ideas in mind for 2010, so stay tuned!!!

    HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!
May this year be filled with happiness, love, laughter, and good health!
